Quick one on teeth whitening, because there's a lot of confused information out there.
Yellow teeth aren't always stained. The natural colour of dentin (the layer under your enamel) is yellowish, and as enamel thins with age, the yellow shows through more. Whitening lightens the enamel surface and some of the staining within it. It does not bleach dentin. What this means: whitening works really well on chai, coffee, tea and tobacco stains. It works reasonably well on age-related yellowing. It does not work on grey discolouration from old root canals, tetracycline staining, or fluorosis spots. For those, veneers are the honest answer. In-clinic whitening at our Delhi practice takes about an hour and gives you several shades of change in one sitting. Home kits work too, but slower, over two to three weeks. Most people aren't giving up their morning chai any time soon, and we wouldn't ask you to. We'll just recommend a touch-up every twelve to eighteen months. #TeethWhitening #BrighterSmile #CosmeticDentistry #DelhiDentist #SmileMakeover
