Pregnant and noticed your gums bleeding more than usual? You're not imagining it. Hormonal changes during pregnancy make gum tissue more sensitive and prone to inflammation. It's called pregnancy gingivitis, and it affects most expecting mothers to some degree. A few things worth knowing: Routine dental care is safe and recommended during pregnancy. The second trimester (weeks 14 to 20) is the most comfortable window for cleanings and any needed treatment. Untreated gum infections during pregnancy are linked to higher risk of preterm birth. Skipping the dentist for nine months is not safer than going. Local anaesthesia for fillings or other necessary work is safe in normal doses. We use minimal amounts when treatment is unavoidable. X-rays are usually deferred to after delivery unless absolutely necessary. When required, lead shielding protects the abdomen. Morning sickness can erode enamel. Rinse with water (don't brush immediately) after vomiting, and ask us about a fluoride rinse. If you're expecting and haven't had a cleaning in a while, do come in. We'll be gentle. #DentalCareInPregnancy #PregnancyGums #DentistDelhi #OralHealth #ExpectingMothers
