Had a tooth removed and not sure what to do next? The first 48 hours decide how smoothly healing goes. Things to do: Bite firmly on the gauze for the first hour. The pressure helps the blood clot form, which is essential for healing. Apply a cold compress to the cheek for 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, for the first six hours. This minimises swelling. Take prescribed pain medication on time, not after the pain hits hard. Easier to control that way. Stick to soft, cool foods for the first day. Curd, dal, khichdi, milkshakes (no straw). Sleep with your head slightly elevated. Things to avoid: Rinsing or spitting forcefully for 24 hours. This dislodges the clot and causes dry socket, which hurts more than the extraction itself. Drinking through a straw. Same reason. Smoking for at least three days. Same reason, plus nicotine slows healing. Hot drinks for 24 hours. Touching the socket with your tongue or fingers. If pain gets worse on day three instead of better, call us. That's often a sign of dry socket and easily treated. #ToothExtraction #PostExtractionCare #DentalHealing #DentistChhatarpur #DelhiDentist
